My work pulls from historical paintings and prints, mashed up and re-contextualized, I am using resources from the past for their aesthetic value - and the meaning already contained within. By rearranging these elements, I am able to tell new stories where conquerors and colonizers are dwarfed by hot wilderness, where new species of plants emerge as a god-tree hybrid, where aristocrats levitate from their thoroughbreds, where nature resists cataloging by clumping together in orgiastic defiance. Each composition is a secret wish, an alchemic spell to rewrite the stories of blood and domination of human history. Nature becomes the protagonist. I revel in the wild, the ridiculous, and the naïve, allowing them freely in my work.
